Grand Master Finalist in the 2012 Clive Cussler Collectors Society Adventure Writers Competition

"A rollicking and engaging adventure to prevent a shocking cataclysm from the far reaches of the Atlantic Ocean."
--Dirk Cussler - New York Times Bestselling author of Poseidon's Arrow.

"An evil mastermind… A terrifying new weapon of mass destruction… A clever young archeologist with a streak of reluctant heroism… An ancient secret that could change everything… Tim Fairchild’s breakout novel, ZERO POINT is pure white-knuckle adventure at its very best."
— Jeff Edwards, award-winning author of Sea of Shadows, and The Seventh Angel

Zero Point
Deep inside a volcanic lava tube in the Canary Islands, a clue to a Christian archaeological treasure is discovered.
Sinister forces, driven by greed and revenge, will stop at nothing in their effort to control the world’s newest energy source; an energy device that will make oil obsolete.
A new and powerful weapon of mass destruction is on its final countdown to unleash nature's ultimate fury; the likes never before witnessed by mankind.
The fanatical leader of a secular movement will stop at nothing to ensure the ancient discoveries are never brought to light, even if it means - murder.
It’s a race against time as archaeologist, Josh Turner, and his friends, set out to stop the threat and save the lives of millions while seeking to discover the ancient artifacts before they are lost forever.

Inspired by the works of Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy;Tim Fairchild, in his premier action/adventure thriller Zero Point, blends fiction, history, and science in a daring way and asks the question; what if nature could be used as a weapon against us?

Zero Point edition by Tim Fairchild Literature Fiction eBooks

ZERO POINT (Pub. 2011) by Tim Fairchild is packed with great action scenes. This story is a combo techno thriller and action-adventure, and was a Grand Master finalist in the Clive Cussler Adventure Writing contest. I've always been a fan of Cussler's, so had to give this debut novel a read.

The story belongs in the classic high-adventure genre typical of Cussler's stories. It's a good read for the multiple plot points that tie together in the end. Josh Turner and his archeology team are returning from their latest project when they spot what looks like a meteor shooting overhead and crashing into the ocean not far from them. Within minutes, their ship is struck by an immense tsunami wave and it's all hands-on-deck, run-for-your-live action. Only Josh's quick thinking and refusal to panic or deny the obvious save him and his young intern. I love this scene, it's one of my favorites in the book, and it's in the first chapter.

Months later Josh and his father learn that the tsunami wave was not caused by a meteor. An evil organization has developed a deadly weapon with plans to control the world. Josh and his team must work to stop the mad plan before it's too late.

Meanwhile, the team must deal with a schizoid oil billionaire, religious fanatics, volcanic eruptions and new-found Christian artifacts that cause another wave of chaos and danger.

I like the way the book ends - with action right up to the end, and Josh set up for his next adventure.

The book is well edited and professionally presented. I give it a 5-star rating for a well-tangled plot and great non-stop action scenes; a 2-3 star rating for the overall writing, which could be tighter, and some on-the-nose dialogue.

If you enjoy Cussler's work, this story will not disappoint.

Zero Point edition by Tim Fairchild Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I've enjoyed this book and it kept me turning pages to find out what was happening next! In some places it seems a bit far-fetched but if you can get past that it's really good. If you enjoy Clive Cussler and some of the other adventure writers than I think you will enjoy this book. Overall the character development is really good and the plot has lots of twists and turns so you'll be kept guessing. I'm really glad I purchased it.
Ok I want to like this book, I really do. But i can't find any momentum. I keep skimming paragraphs hoping to find a spark.

i just reread the reviews and am committed to finish the book to see what the others are talking about. i will complete the review then.

Just seems slow and wordy as it tries to build the characters in the opening.

Update I finally finished it. It does suck you in about mid way through. Pretty good story with exciting moments that make you feel for the characters. I liked it.
I love action adventure books but for some reason this book is flat. None of the characters including the main one are memorable nor are the bad men. I admit I had a hard time with the main character crying given he's a man shame on me! He didn't cry a lot just towards the end of the book about the time wasted between he & his Father. It just felt unreal to me. He's this strong macho man through most of the book so his tears were surprising & felt out of place. The author does a good job making you feel you are part of the action I just never got into the book to care if the West Coast of the U.S. was going to be wiped out by a big Tidal wave.
This could be a James Bond movie with very little problem, sinister Japanese villain, psychotic American oil magnate and anti-Christian fanatic against a quartet of dashing archaeologists. Mix futuristic free energy source, seismic protocols that can set off volcanic erruptions and an astounding archaeological discovery of Christian artifacts and you have non-stop roller-coaster action.

Good characterization, reasonably tight plotting and good storyline with only a few places that indicated this was a first book for the author.

Great entertainment for readers looking for page-turning A/A escapism. Will be interesting to see where this goes in the next book or two.
I love this book. Overall is similar to Clive Cussler's work, but here our heroes are not indestructible superheroes armed with sofisticated weapons or trained ex-black ops. Just a group of archaeologists trapped between a major discovery and the bad guys plot to change the world forever. The rest is there to enjoy for all tech/history thriller lovers alike a discovery that can rewrite history, awesome technology and weaponry, danger lurking over our heroes at every single page turn, and, of course, the megalomaniac at the verge of destroying millions of innocent lives. All staged beautifully at the Canary Islands exotic scenery. A page turner that easily deserves FIVE stars.
Before I explain my scientific objections, let me first say I downloaded this book for free, but I would have paid $2.99 for it...it's a sci-fi thriller with a lot of entertaining qualities. Other people have commented on the protagonists and the villains, so I'll summarize they're a bit larger than life, a la Tom Clancy, but tight, interesting characterization all the same. And the plot shines, except for one small detail.
While ZPF is a real part of QM (QFT, to be precise) and I was originally attracted to the book because of the coincidence of title with my own past research in physics, morphing the Casimir effect to large-scale applications is very much in the realm of sci-fi (I use it myself in the second volume of my own sci-fi trilogy as a source of energy). However, longitudinal EM waves are fantasy, not sci-fi. There's a mathematical proof they don't exist! [See J. Scientific Exploration 16(3), 359-362(2002).]
There are also a few horrendous typos (interned for interred, for example), but most readers will not even notice them.
I don't know Mr. Fairchild personally, but I sure hope he writes more sci-fi thrillers. I had fun reading this one.
